A widely used analgesic - particularly for neuropathic pain.
Structurally mimics GABA, but mode of action on neuropathic pain is thought to be due to the blocking of voltage-gated Ca++ channels.
It is well tolerated and excreted unmetabolised. Drowsiness and peripheral oedema are the commonest side-effects.
